35 weeks

How far along? 35 weeks - 5 weeks to go!!!
Total weight gain/loss: +29.8 lbs. I've tried my best to mentally prepare for the next weight jump that i know is coming (helloooo water weight of the 3rd trimester!) but it is still an adjustment.  luckily though, i dont think i look like i've put on as much as I have.  (if you feel otherwise, please keep that to yourself.  let my dilusional pregnancy brain have that one happy thought thankyouverymuch.)
Maternity clothes? Absolutely
Stretch marks? Still none and keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!
Best moment this week: A good friend took our maternity photos this past weekend and from the sneak peek we have gotten, they turned out great!
Miss anything: being able to wear shoes.  the swelling in my feet/toes/ankles has taken a turn towards Fred Flinstone territory the worse, and any form of restriction at all is uncomfortable.  Yes, that includes socks and slippers as well.
Movement: Based on how he/she pushes on my ribs and kicks my hip, I can tell that space is definitely becoming in short supply in there. The hiccups are becoming more frequent as well, and the baby gets ticked off each time it happens. So much personality already and I love it.
Food cravings: I'm not really "craving" anything at the moment. I'm not a picky eater though, so I guess I could say FOOD in general is a craving.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.
Have you started to show yet: yes
Gender: We are still team green!
Labor Signs: The Braxton Hicks are becoming more frequent, but none have been to painful yet.
Belly Button in or out? Still ridiculously flat
Wedding rings on or off? I've had to remove the 'stand-in' one i purchased, even that one is too small now :(
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Our first baby shower is this Thursday!  My co-workers are putting one together and I am so excited!  Check back this weekend for another post update!

I caught some more movement on video :) The baby had had hiccups for a few minutes by this point, so he/she was starting to get irritated. Its so funny to me when it happens bc i can see a small part of the personality coming out and the baby isn't even born yet! The hiccups are very slight, but you can see them to the top left of my belly.

In other news this week: swelling has reached a new high (or low)  I decided to wear a dress and some knee high boots on one of the colder days, and had to wear taller socks as a result.  Well, turns out tall socks are not a friend of swollen pregnant ankles.. And yes, they were as painful as they look =/.

This dent was made from the stand in ring that i bought. that is TWO sizes bigger than my wedding ring! Everyone tells me that the swelling will go away after the baby is born, but part of me highly doubts that..

The invite to my shower this week at work :)

I got a pedicure (finally!).  The gal rushed through it a little bit so i didnt get the full benefit of the massages and all that, so i think its only fair that i get to treat myself to another before the baby comes.

We are still attending Pilates class on a regular basis.  The teacher and the ladies in my class are all so sweet, they keep telling me how great it is that I'm still working out, and help me find ways to modify the moves so i can still participate.  Its great to get my sweat on, but I really miss running..  This photo was taken at 34w1d.

Awkward revisited..

If you've been reading our blog for a while now, you probably remember this post on the awkward things that have happened or have been said to me so far in the pregnancy.  Granted, this was written right around the half-way mark, but still, I had started to show at that point, and people were curious.

Everyone said that the questions and situations would get much more awkward and ridiculous in the coming weeks, and so far, I have not been disappointed.  With less than 6 weeks until D-Day, I'll do one more update of this at the very end, and I'm sure those ones will be the best, but until then, these are common occurrences/conversations I've had lately.

1) You look tired, are you getting enough sleep at night? Even if i weren't, how is this meant to sound caring in any way/shape/form?  The only way this is ever interpreted to a woman (pregnant or not) is that it is a somehwat polite way of saying that you look like crap that day.  Awesome.
2) Here, let me get that for you. No matter if i drop something, try to open a door, grab a ream of paper or try to climb a ladder, I'm to the point in my pregnancy where I'm apparently able to do nothing.
3) People have now transitioned from asking how far along I am to how much longer I have left.  I know that in the grand scheme of things, I am still on the small side of the beached whale pregnancy spectrum, but to have the confirmation that I am starting to look as big as I feel- Sweet.
4) You don't look pregnant at all- from the back!  At this point, I take this as a HUGE compliment!  I know that the flip side of that comment probably contains a silent something related to me looking big from the side and blah blah blah, but hey, I don't look like a fatty mcfatfat from the back. Score.
5) People (close friends mainly) have asked if my feet have started to swell. I use to think this was them looking out for me, concerned about my well being, etc. but it turns out that if my feet swell enough, I have to buy new shoes and donate my current ones.  This made me stop and think- those asking the most are people with whom I could share shoes with... Convenient.
6) If someone sees me eyeing a cookie or any item of food, they smile and ask if the baby wants it.  No, the baby doesn't want it, I do!  I wont disguise my want of whatever you're eating as the baby 'needing' it! I'm pregnant and I'm irrationally hungry for no reason.
7) I have slowly taken on the form of my future 80 year old self.  On the weekends, my outfit of choice consists of my VS bathrobe, paint stained sweat pants, mismatched slippers/socks and a side pony.  Make-up is not even a thought, and you'll be lucky if I've brushed my teeth after my morning cup of coffee. Sexy.
8) Wardrobe. Working in a law firm, my work attire has taken a hit lately due to the growing baby in my belly.  Yes, maternity clothes have come a long way and all that, but when i was use to wearing heels and dresses a majority of the time, these items are not so good for pregnancy.  I am to the point now where i wear whatever is comfortable, matching or not, and more often than not when I'm at home, my belly is hanging out of the bottom of a t-shirt from pre-baby times.  Yes, I know I should care, but no, I do not. #sorrynotsorry
9) People are acutely aware of my 'cravings'.  Friends, family members, and mostly my amazing husband have gotten into the habit of calling or texting me when they're on their way over to our house to see if I need or want anything.  B usually calls me on his way home from night classes just to make sure that I don't need anything for the rest of the night.  I love that man.
10) Men's reaction.  We are to the point in the pregnancy where i am undeniably showing, and men can no longer risk confusing my baby belly with the remnants of a big lunch.  Yes, they still dont really talk to me about it, but rather than just stare awkwardly at the belly and walk away, they will at least acknowledge its' presence before mumbling something and shuffling away.
11) Women's reaction.  Women have always been more willing to talk to me about the baby, but it is to the point now where strangers ask how things are going.  Mainly women from church, but it is so sweet to see someone take in my current appearance and not only see them reminisce momentarily but kindly ask how I am, and to know they geniuinely care.
12) Sleeping is inappropriate places is now a forgivable offense.  Not from experience, but it turns out that pregnancy is the one time in life that it is slightly forgivable to fall asleep at your desk.  Three times now (immediately after my lunch hour- give me some credit) I've been woken up by a co-worker opening my door to ask for help with something.  They just smile and ask if i need anything, and then ask me for help with whatever job they needed.
13) Concern for my diet. Yes, there are all sorts of "rules and regulations" of what pregnant women can or can't eat, and while i appreciate the well wishes that are behind the questions, having you ask me "Should you really be drinking that coffee..?" with disapproving mom eyes the minute I walk through the office door doesn't help.  I showed up for work, roughly on time (5 minutes late..always..) and I'm dressed.  My coffee is my saving grace right now and if I didn't want it so badly, I'd throw it at you.
14) Restrooms. Until you're pregnant, you never really realize the height difference between the handicap accessible toilets vs. the others.  Not only are the handicap accessible toilets much higher off the ground, but I am also able to walk into the stall and shut the door without hitting my stomach on its' way closed.
15) Body Awkward. I've read all sorts of books, blogs, journals and talked to numerous people, but one body awkward that no-one ever told me about: while sitting in a dress, my pregnant belly would rest on my thighs.  Sexy.
16) Body positioning.  I cant remember the last time in recent months that I've sat up straight in a chair.  The baby is now large enough that when i sit down, if he/she is positioned just right, i can't bend in half properly.  The head has become comfortably wedged in/under my ribs all.the.time. , and sitting in a slightly reclined position in my desk chair is much more comfortable.
17) Belly Button oddities. Having what I would call an 'in-betweenie' belly button prior to pregnancy, the odd (and nearly flat) shape that I currently have fascinates me in the wierdest way.  Looking at photos, i can remember what it looked like, but after the baby arrives and my belly button returns back to its normal state, I can't even comprehend it.
18) Belly=Musical thoughts. For whatever reason, whenever people ask me about the baby (how he/she is doing, how I'm feeling, etc.) rather than touch or gently rub my stomach gently like a normal pregnant lady, i somehow feel the need to play it like a drum. Everytime.  3 or 4 pats with both hands.  I know I need to not do this, I'm sure the baby will come out all bobble-headed and what not, but having this large mass attached to the front of my body is so odd to me, and it makes me feel like i need to react oddly to it rather than normally. Apparently.

34 weeks

How far along? 34 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: +26 lbs. we have an appointment tomorrow, but I would not be surprised if I'm up 30lbs.
Maternity clothes? Just today I had a friend ask me if I had purchased any maternity clothes yet and I had to catch myself from falling out of my chair.  So sweet to try to make me feel better, but I haven't worn regular pants in nearly 6 months.  The thought is much appreciated though!
Stretch marks? Still none and keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!
Best moment this week: We have 6 weeks left until D-Day! from here on out, if I go into labor, they wont stop the process, but the baby will have to spend time in the NICU. Still so exciting to be this close to full term!!
Miss anything: going running.  Yes, running while pregnant is healthy, but I'm an absolute space cadet when i run (I've nearly been hit by cars before), so it would've have been a good combination. Running is such a great stress reliever for me, and I'm really looking forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.
Labor Signs: Nothing that I'm aware of.
Belly Button in or out? Still ridiculously flat
Wedding rings on or off? They are safely stowed away in the safe for the time being, and I may have to go back and purchase another larger stand-in than the one I'm currently wearing.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: We are getting maternity photos taken this weekend by a good friend and are so excited to have this journey documented!  Once she photoshops my tired eyes and chubby neck processes them, i'll try to post a few on here to show off :)

In other news, we had another snow storm.  We are having the snowiest April on record, and are rapidly rushing towards the coldest as well.  Not ideal for nearly 8 months pregnant, but I'll just keep wearing the same leggings and random other items until the weather gets nicer and I can finally wear a dress.

33 weeks

How far along? 33 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: +26 lbs.
Maternity clothes? Of course.  Even some of these i've grown out of, so hopefully the weather turns nice sometime soon, or the only items of clothing that i'll be able to wear consistently are sweat pants and a bath robe.
Stretch marks? Still none and keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!
Best moment this week: The changing table is now in the nursery!  I found a great one on Craigslist that needed some love and Gpa Dobbs volunteered to tackle the project.  It turned out great!
Miss anything: being able to roll over in bed.  Yes i can technically do this still, but it is a 3 step process and many grunts are involved.  Real cute.
Movement: All.Day.Long. and I LOVE it!
Food cravings: I'm not really "craving" anything at the moment.  I'm not a picky eater though, so I guess I could say FOOD in general is a craving.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.
Have you started to show yet:  So much so that when i was at Menards this weekend purchasing paint, the lady at the checkout asked how far along I was.  I was wearing a tank top, zip up hoodie and a jacket, and i still looked pregnant! woohoo :)
Gender: We are still team green!
Labor Signs: Nothing that I'm aware of.
Belly Button in or out? Still ridiculously flat.  (see how it looks in the heartbeat video? ridiculous)
Wedding rings on or off? They are safely stowed away in the safe for the time being, and I may have to go back and purchase another larger stand-in than the one I'm currently wearing.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Him/her being here!  The larger the baby gets, the more real this all becomes.  To know that there is a little human growing in my belly, and that he/she is something that we created is so awesome.  We can't wait to meet him/her and shower all the love and attention that we can.

A few other happenings this week: We've finally dug our way out from the snow-pocalypse (this isn't an exaggeration at all- we got 25". it was the snowiest day in the state's history!) last week, only to hear that we are suppose to get  8-12" of snow again today and tomorrow!  we had a great time on both our snow days, but the amount of playing in the snow shoveling we had was ridiculous.  I guess we will see what happens.

One of B's co-workers got married in Vegas and had their reception over the weekend, and it was fun for us to get out of the house.  What wasn't so fun however- me trying on every dress i can fit into (which is roughly 6) and not liking any of them.  Turns out the baby bump looks different in a tighter outfit (ie: a dress) than it does in my normal work attire.

The baby quilt is finished!  I put a lot of work into cutting/sewing this all together, and Gma Dobbs recently purchased a quilting machine so she was kind enough to quilt it for us.  She picked the heart pattern and it is a great fit!  I'm thrilled with the way it turned out!  I made sure to pick fabric that could go either boy or girl, and once the baby is born, I'll head back to the store to purchase some matching material to make curtains (or have gma  help me make them!)

Baby A received a package in the mail from Great Gma Scherer which only means one thing- knitting!!!!  If you know or have met her, she is a master knitter, and we have many blankets, hats and scarves to prove it.  She was so amazing and made a cardigan and matching hat, baby blanket and stuffed bear for our little one.  We are so appreciative and can't wait to use these items!

This baby is incredibly loved, getting gifts from all sides!  Gma Akley has been diligently working on multiple blankets for our little one and I love them all!  Minki fabric even :)  These are still a work in progress, but you better believe photos of those babies will end up on here once they are finished.  To be honest, they are so soft, I may end up keeping one for myself..

In fairly exciting news:  I finally remembered to record the heartbeat! At each of our appointments, the heartbeat has been very strong, 140's and higher (even up to 160 one time!) and we love listening to it each time we go in.  Hope you enjoy the sound- we sure do :)  It was 145bpm this time, and jumped to 150 after i turned the camera off.

**Please forgive that both videos are my bare stomach. I know this is a horribly tacky look for a pregnant lady and I apologize! They have to put the probe directly on your skin to get the best audible heartbeat, and when I tried to get movement on camera with my shirt down, the pattern looked like it was filmed in 3D. **

Additional news- I finally caught some visible movement on camera!  This baby has been incredibly stubborn so far (shocker, right?) and I swear he/she can sense when the camera is on.  As the available space in my belly is rapidly becoming prime real-estate, the movement is much more noticable from the outside.  For whatever reason, the baby's head has remained under my left ribs and the feet are pointed towards my right hip.  If you watch the video, you can see his/her head popping up every so often just below my left ribs.  Trying to make its' way out?  Yes, I think so!

Yeesh, after finishing this post, I realized it is a TON of content!  Sorry for the photo/info/video dump, but as we are nearing the end of our journey, a lot is going on and I figure it is better to overshare rather than leave things out.
Thanks if you read all the way to the end :)

32 weeks

If you look closely, you can see my belly is starting to eat its' way out the bottom of my shirt.  Just dont look to closely (I dont have that "pregnant lady glow" everyone talks about =/)
Disappointingly enough, our fruit/veggie size stayed the same this week, however the measurements went up.  I know that the closer we get to the end, we wont have a ton of change from here to the end, just gradually bigger and longer.  It makes my life easier when the fruit doesn't change though, one less thing to try and figure out how the heck to draw with chalk.

How far along? 32 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: +22 lbs. we have an appointment tomorrow morning so i can update this then, but i know I'm up at least 25lbs. probably closer to the 30lb mark which might give me heart attack..
Maternity clothes? If I even attempt to wear anything non-maternity, my belly hangs out the bottom! B has lovingly told me (more than once) that my stomach is trying to eat my shirt.
Stretch marks? Still none and keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!
Best moment this week: We are nearing the home stretch of our home rennovation projects! The nursery is nearly complete, we just need to get the rest of the furniture in there. (changing table, glider/rocker, etc.)
Miss anything: Being able to wear my wedding ring. B put so much thought and effort into custom designing it for me and I LOVE it, so its such a bummer that it doesn't fit right now :(
Movement: All.Day.Long. I'd much rather have a super active baby than one who doesn't like to move- it helps reassure me on a daily basis. At night though, it would be great if we could have some peace and quiet.. I shouldn't complain really, I still get a solid 8+ hours of sleep a night, so a little movement occasionally isn't a big deal at all!
Food cravings: I can't think of anything for this week.. hotdogs dont sound good anymore, pancakes are back to a regular breakfast item, Mac-n-cheese is eaten once in a great while. I could possibly say cereal is one?  I have that for an evening snack quite frequently now days.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.
Have you started to show yet: most definitely.
Gender: We are still team green!
Labor Signs: Nope, all is staying put and continuing to cook as planned. I've had a few Braxton Hicks contractions that are slightly painful, but for the most part, we are holding strong. An unfortunate side effect of these- I dont have to pee at all, but when a BH hits, its a mad dash to the bathroom. Anyone in-between me and the bathroom is at their own risk, and I've been sure to tell my co-workers exactly that.
Belly Button in or out? I think we have reached a stale-mate with this progress at the moment. It is dangerously close to being flat, but i guess there was additional skin that could be stretched right now, so its not popped out just yet.
Wedding rings on or off? Off. Sadly, they have been temporarily moved to the safe. My fingers are so swollen that even my 'stand in' rings dont fit!  I purchased a stand in this weekend, and to give context of how much water weight i have- my wedding ring is a 5 1/4, and the stand-in is a 7. that still leaves a dent in my swollen finger..
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Our appointment tomorrow. we will get to hear the heartbeat (like normal) but we will get to see him/her as well.  It will probably be the last time until the baby arrives, so it is exciting!

One non-enjoyable feature i've begun to expeirnece is water retention.  Now, not only do my rings not fit, and my nylon sockies leave marks on my fat pregnant lady feet, but I've somehow drifted into the realm of having a minor cankle.  Not both, of course, just one.  My right one. It looks like i have a minorly sprained ankle, but only on the inside.  How or why this happened, I have no idea, but apparently pregnancy thinks its funny to make me more closely resemble Mama June's legs than my formerly somewhat shapely legs and skinny calves/ankles of pre-pregnancy.

Another feature i've become very regular with is that my leg gives out if the baby moves/kicks just right.  I'm sure he/she is just hitting my sciatic nerve and deadens it for a second, but if i have all my weight on the side the baby kicks, lets just hope I'm near something so i dont fall down entirely.  I'm sure it is quite comical to watch, I'm really just waiting for the time that I'm not near anything/one and actually fall down.

In other news this week:

A few photos of our FABULOUS diaper bag!  Like i mentioned before, it was a huge step outside my comfort zone to purchase it, but the reviews and all that I read made it seem worth it.  After it arrived and I was able to examine it, I am so thrilled with it.  The grey/black color scheme is very neutral and can go for a boy or a girl, and the yellow flower detail gives it a little bit of a girly/stylish touch without being over the top.

One facet that made me love the bag was the fact that it has a built in changing pad! I know most places are now equipped with changing tables/pads in the restrooms, but i love the idea that we always have one at our disposal- just in case!  It can be removed and tossed in the wash as well so thats a big plus.

We are in the midst of a ridiculous snow storm, and as a result we had a snow day today from work. it was great to get to sleep in and spend a day at home with B. Given that i had to go nowhere, I didnt put make-up on all day nor did i shower. Its been great :)

This is the current view from our front porch. This railing usually comes up to my mid-section, and without stepping outside, I'd safely say that this drift is easily up to my mid thighs.

The footprints you see are from a sweet neighbor boy who stopped by to see if we wanted help with our sidewalks

Small items like the ones to the left have already begun to invade our house.  After Gma Dobbs' trip down to see my sister and our nephews, she came back equipped with many more baby items that they no longer use/need.  These toys were amongst them!  After a quick bleach bath, they are ready to be played with, and go with a nautical themed play mat that is currently air drying on top of the dryer.  Once it is dry, we will put it together and it will wait for Baby A's arrival :)

All put together and waiting for Baby A's arrival! Thanks Fischer family/cousins for gifting it to us!

I won tickets off the radio to go see comedian Lisa Lampanelli at our local Civic Center.  She's not someone we would typically seek out/spend money to see, but given that they were free, we thought "why not?".  Her opening act was quite funny, but Lisa herself wasn't the best.  She had some funny things, but she swore literally every other word, so that completely drug down the show as a whole.  Like i said, a few funny moments, but given that we didnt pay for the tickets, we were only out the money we spent on dinner and the few hours of the evening.

31 weeks

At 31 weeks we are working our way towards the home stretch, and while pregnancy has been fantastic so far, I must say I'm a little relieved.  When I'm able to be at home and in sweats/comfy clothes, I dont mind my size so much, but working in a law firm, our dress code is slightly tighter than many other places, and as such, I'm not the most comfortable at work.  Knowing we have at most 11 weeks left (this is including if I go 2 weeks past my due date- which is the longest that Dr. D will let me go) is crazy.  Realistically though, we have approximately two months left in this portion of the journey, and then our lives will change forever!  We are so excited to become parents, and even though the baby needs to stay in for another few weeks (at least!), we are so looking forward to meeting him or her and can't wait for the actual birthday!
In other exciting news, I ordered the diaper bag this weekend!  It was waaay more than I usually spend on household bills a bag, but from the reviews I've read, and the research I've done, it seems worth it in the long run.  Plus, I bought it off Amazon so if i have to return it, the process will be a *smidge* smoother. I'll be sure to get some photos of it on here when it arrives.
Also, each holiday that we pass is exciting because we know they will be the last ones we celebrate just the two three of us.  Yes, we are that crazy couple who buy Christmas gifts and have birthday parties for their dog, but to know that each holiday from here on out we will have a little one to experience them with is so much fun. We've already brainstormed how to have an Easter Egg hunt at our house next year. LOVE it.

I cheated for the drawing of the vegetable this week, because lets be real, who can draw a head of lettuce with chalk?

Looking forward to: our 32 week appointment next week.  Both Grandmas are going to come with us (they've delicately asked in the past) so they can be a part of the expeirence too.  We are to the point in the pregnancy where the baby is getting so big that any ultrasound past this point would be a little difficult to make out clearly.  Hopefully we can get some good photos and our Little One is more cooperative than in times past.  They will get to hear the heartbeat first hand as well, and that is always an awesome experience!

Here is are updated photos of us on Easter Sunday- we are 30w5d in this photo.  I am in love with nearly every maxi dress that I see/try on, so if you have some you'd  like to donate to me for a few weeks, I would not be heartbroken!

In other, non cute, news- like many of you, when I wear flats, I wear the small nylon sockies so the shoes don't get all funked up during the day.  Well, the pregnancy fat feet water weight retention has settled in like a cloud, and when I remove the little sockies at the end of the day, this is what I'm greeted with.  I feel like i give new meaning to the term 'sausage toes'. Yuck.

Don't judge me for the lack of nail polish/state of my feet. I'm lucky I can still bend enough to trim them myself. A pedicure is in the cards for me this weekend and I'm soooo looking forward to it!
